So I’m on record multiple times stating that Gintama has one of the best soundtracks I’ve heard and it has THE single best collection of openings period. So many of these songs to me are iconic, catchy, have amazing visuals, and sound amazing. So, just like with black clover, I wanted to rank them in my order from worst to best. Just like the last list, I’ll be taking into account the song, the visuals, and also the episodes that the openings covered. Cause lets face it, there might be an op on here that gets the edge over others mainly because of its association with the episodes it appeared on, and that’s fine.
This season is another great Gintama season. This was the finale to the major conflict that’s been brewing these past few seasons while also being the beginning of the epilogue. With that, there’s a lot of laughs, emotions, hype moments, and by the end, I just have this feeling of bitter-sweetness that this amazing anime is almost over.
So I announced in my new podcast a few days ago that I was gonna skip the slip arc and move onto the silver soul arc. Just to stay on the timeline, and I’ll eventually come back around to the slip arc. But man, this arc is really good. All my gripes about animation last season, pretty much out the window and the comedy was on point.
Summer came around a lot faster than I thought it would. I haven’t even made a dent in the anime I was looking forward to in the spring season (post here). But looking back on that list. Spring was a great season with a mix of really good new releases and really good continuations of beloved series. Unfortunately, I don’t think that can be said for this Summer season. There’s some interesting stuff here, but as to while I left off some anime on the Spring list. I could barely get to 10 here. Nevertheless, there’s some anime here that really look interesting. But this season is looking pretty weak compared to what we got in Spring and what we’re seemingly about to get in Autumn and Winter.
It took me way too long to finally watch this movie. Seeing as I’m in the midst of watching all of Gintama (which is phenomenal btw) I kinda needed to take a break and I didn’t want to post only one blog post this month so I decided to watch a so-called classic. And to me, it really did live up to the classic and highly acclaimed status that is accumulated through the years. Spirited Away was a beautiful and refreshing experience.
Bungou Stray Dogs: Dead Apple is the third installment of the franchise and the bridge between season 2 and season 3. And uh this movie was alright. I didn’t have too high expectations for this movie, but the intrigue was thereafter the foreshadowing at the end of season 2 about events yet to come. Well, this movie doesn’t deal with those events but still had an interesting enough concept that I was interested in. Sadly this movie just alright.
My 3rd Black Clover post in a day, but what I can say I love this show. While the animation isn’t that great a lot of the time. When a fight comes up in Black Clover, it’s a pretty good chance there’s gonna be some fire sakuga fight scenes. Mix that great animation with a great soundtrack, and great emotional impact. Sheesh, I could watch these all day. Going through all of these fights it’s crazy how many good to great ones there are. Enough for me to at least make two of these so no honorable mentions this time.
So I talked about this in my review of Black Clover but it’s kind of crazy how much it holds true to me. Very few long-running anime have consistently great openings through their whole run. If Black Clover can be remembered for anything it will be its ops. So I decided to rank my favorite openings from 1-13. I thought it’d be pretty fun to break it down and rate the visuals and the song both out of 10. But my final thoughts and placement take into account the opening as a whole.
Angel Beats has something special about it. It’s one of those anime that’s always recommended and also one that you’ll see in everyone’s “anime that made me cry list.” And rightfully so. Angel Beats unique premise and use of characters could bring at least one tear out of even the most hate-filled person ever. This show has truly powerful moments that left me in awe. This is admittedly not the hardest thing to do in the world sometimes, but this show did it multiple times.
It’s crazy how quickly Spring is coming upon us. It feels like just yesterday the Winter anime season started. Fall 2020 gave us Jujutsu Kaisen, another Haikyuu!! season, Akudama Drive, and many other strong sequels and first-time shows. Followed up by one of the most hyped anime seasons. Winter 2021 hit hard with Attack on Titan: The Final Season, Dr. Stone: Stone Wars, and many other great shows. It’s looking like this upcoming anime season is going to be pretty good in its own right. Particularly this season looks very strong with first season anime. I’m very excited to see how a lot of these shows shape up. So today I’m going to count down the 15 anime that I’m personally going to be keeping an eye on this season! This list isn’t in any hard order, but the anime closer to the top I’m definitely going to watch. Either while it’s airing or binge it afterward. Enjoy!
